Shotwell oversees day-to-day operations at Elon Musk’s spacecraft firm, now valued at $125 billion. SpaceX led the commercial rocket industry with a record 31 launches in 2021, only to launch more than 40 so far in 2022. Last year, the company raised $1.5 billion and was tapped by NASA to land the next Americans on the moon. But Shotwell received blowback after she defended Musk over sexual misconduct allegations (that he denies) in a leaked internal memo.
