Against the odds, Su has built AMD into a fierce competitor among its longtime chip rivals. AMD surpassed semiconductor giant Intel in market value this year, despite waning demand for PCs. Topping Intel was a major feat for the chipmaker: When Su took over as CEO in 2014, AMD’s market cap was $3.2 billion; it’s now more than $100 billion. Su has also made investments to help ease the ongoing chip shortage that continues to impact many sectors.
