Last year, Alphabet was growing its employee base quickly, and Porat was leading the company’s real estate expansion to house its hybrid workforce. But like many tech firms, Alphabet’s earnings have cooled a bit as the economy slows and advertising demand drops. The ex–Wall Street vet has said the company intends to curb hiring, but she’s still kept busy: Porat oversaw the $5.4 billion deal to buy cybersecurity firm Mandiant—Google’s second-largest acquisition ever.
