Brewer is on a mission to remake WBA for a post-COVID world. Just months after taking the top job at the $132.5 billion pharmacy giant in 2021, the former Starbucks exec launched a health care business, buying majority stakes in primary-care services provider VillageMD and home-care coordinator CareCentrix. She has also rolled out a clinical trials business, with a goal of increasing access in drug research—particularly among underrepresented groups.
